Student Debt Workshops 2025

Supporting services employees who incurred personal student loan debt accumulated before and after their employment commencement date with MCPS may be eligible for student loan debt relief. This incredible benefit, negotiated by SEIU Local 500, is exclusively for SEIU Local 500 support staff unit members at MCPS. You may receive up to 10% of your student loan debt per year, up to half of the total debt (excluding interest.

Funding can be used to pay for programs at universities, trade schools, training programs, and other institutions that provide educational opportunities for supporting services employees to do their jobs.

The window to request financial aid from the Student Debt Relief Fund is open between Wednesday, Feb. 19, and Monday, March 31.

To be eligible, you must have been employed for a minimum of 12 months in an SEIU bargaining unit position, and you must attend a workshop on understanding the Student Debt Relief Fund.

If you are a returning applicant who was approved previously, you must—

  • Complete the application (MCPS Form 442-1).

  • Follow the checklist instructions for previously approved applicants at the bottom right of the form.

  • Submit the application between Feb. 19 and March 31.

If you applied in a previous year and were denied, you must reapply and follow the eligibility requirements for new applicants.
