Special Statement on Local 500’s Response to COVID-19 Outbreak

SEIU Local 500 is committed to the health and safety of all of its members. Due to the highly contagious nature of this virus, we have made the decision to close our offices effective immediately and instead operate on a mandatory telework policy. In this time, we will still be available to our members by email, but due to safety concerns, cannot meet with members in person at our office.
As the situation continues to develop, SEIU Local 500 is working with other organizations to demand that state and local authorities do all that is within their power to protect all people against loss of income, loss of housing, loss of food and medicine, and loss of essential services and utilities.
Critically for our members, we will be coordinating with their employers, elected officials, and government agencies, as needed, to protect their jobs, income, and benefits.
The closing of offices and cancellation of events does not stop our work on behalf of members. Whether in negotiations with their employers or in advocacy with state and local governments, we will continue to work tirelessly to protect their income and job security.
If you are a member and have specific concerns, please reach out via email for the foreseeable future. Email is the most effective way to reach your union as our staff transition to telework.
In solidarity,
Pia Morrison
President, SEIU Local 500
